Description

Each month, Board Game Academics will highlight a scholar, professional, or enthusiast from diverse communities within the world of tabletop gaming. We want your unique, unfiltered perspective on how gaming influences the world.

You do not need to be an academic to submit an essay for consideration. Our goal is to open up access to scholarship on tabletop gaming, not just to readers but to first-time authors and researchers with something to share.

Below is a summary of submission guidelines for Victory Point essays. Please submit completed drafts or outlines for consideration. If you have questions about an idea, email us directly at [email protected].

  • Length: Approximately 2,000-2,500 words
  • Topic: Reflection, analysis, discussion, or case study related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in tabletop gaming.
  • Field: No restrictions on academic background, field of study, or professional credentials. We’re looking for diverse, practical discussions of gaming.

  • Audience: Board Game Academics is an open-source publication for scholars, researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts across the spectrum of tabletop gaming. We encourage you to write with a broader audience in mind.

Things to Avoid:

  • Traditional Reviews: While analysis of games and game systems is welcome, we encourage you to seek a specific angle or argument in relation to the game being discussed. If you have a traditional review, please contact us at [email protected]
  • Opinion-Editorial: While we are eager to publish essay that reflect the voices of their authors, we’re not looking for explicitly op-ed content that lacks sourcing or detailed examples.
  • Journal Articles: If you have a journal article or abstract to submit, please use our standard submission form during an open Call for Papers (Volume 3 will be open between November 15, 2024 and January 15, 2025).
